bookshelves: gave-up

It took me ages to get through the first 100 pages. Most reviews, positive or negative start with how difficult the book was to complete and its true.

Its hard to stick with the book. There is nothing compelling you to move on to the next chapter. Most of them start with something obvious, explain the most minute intricacies and then leads into a summary almost of the same size. Highly repetitive, you come across the same ideas again and again to the point you wonder if you really turned the pages forward or backward.

A super quick system 1 optimized for fast thinking and reflexes. System 2 for much slower, deliberate and analytical tasks. We are inherently lazy and use system 1 even for things that would have been better done with system 2. We jump to erroneous conclusions without really thinking. This is the core idea. There are indeed a couple of Aha! moments where you get a "Damn! I knew it" feeling. But no one likes to hear the same joke one more time.

The book feels overrated. Even if the ideas are great, it needs to be presented in a way that wont bore everyone to death. You cannot stretch a simple idea to 400 pages no matter what you do. The book fails miserably in keeping readers engaged.
