OATH, an, what it is, con. xxii. 1. It is a part of religious worship, ib. The name of God is that by which men ought only to swear, con. xxii. 2. cat. 108. Vain or rash swearing by his name is to be abhorred, con. xxii. 2. cat. 113. Yet, in matters of weight and moment, an oath is warrantable under the New Testament, con. xxii. 2.
