Whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them.-Mark vi. 11. Luke x. 16. Matt. x. 11-13.

We are here all present before God to hear all things that are commanded thee of God: while Peter was preaching Christ, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard. -Acts x. 33, 34. ii. 37, &c.

When the apostles were command- xix. 8-10. 20. ed not to preach Christ, they said, Now, brethren, I commend you to Whether it be right in the sight of God, and to the word of his grace, God to hearken unto you more than which is able to build you up.-Acts unto God, judge ye. --Acts iv. 18.19. xx. 32. ν. 28.

I have appeared unto thee for this

Go,stand and speak in the temple purpose, to make thee a minister, &c. to the people all the words of this delivering thee from the Gentiles, to

whom I now send thee, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God.-Acts xxvi. 16-18.

The Eunuch reading the prophet And Paul dwelt two whole years Isaias, Philip ran thither to him, &c. in his own hired house, and received and opened his mouth, and began at all that came in unto him: preaching the same scripture, and preached the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord you, in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled Jesus Christ. Acts xxviii. 23.30, unto God. -2 Cor. v. 18-20. 31. ix. 22. xviii. 23. xi. 20, 21.

I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also: for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation, &c. -Rom. i. 15, 16. 2 Thess. ii. 14.

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach except they be sent? &c. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.--Rom. x. 14, 15. 17. Titus i. 3.

Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel, &c. for the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness: but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God, &c. It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching, to save them that believe, &c. 1 Cor. i. 17, 18.21.23. 24, xv. 1-4.

My preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, &c. but that which the Holy Ghost teacheth. -1 Cor. ii. 4, 5. 13.

In Christ Jesus I have begotten you, through the gospel.-1 Cor.

iv. 15.

Every man, praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.-1 Cor. xi. 4.

He that prophesieth, speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort, &c. he edifieth the church, &c.-1 Cor. xiv. 3, 4.

Who hath made us able ministers of the New Testament, &c. if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so, &c. how shall not the ministration of the Spirit be rather glorious? -2 Cor. iii. 6-10.

The ministry of reconciliation: to wit, that God was in Christ, &c. we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray

And he gave some apostles, &c. for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, until, &c.Eph. iv. 11-14.

The apostles rejoiced that Christ was preached, although some did it not uprightly.-Phil. i. 15, 16. 18.

When this epistle is read amongst you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans.-Col. iv. 16.

Ye received the word of God which ye heard of us; ye received it not as the word of men, but (as it is in truth) the word of God, &c.-1 Thess. ii. 13. 16. Eph. i. 13. Col. i. 6.

Despise not prophesyings. 1 Thess. v. 20.

Give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.-1 Tim. iv. 13.

I charge thee, &c. preach the word: be instant in season, and out of season: reprove, &c.-2 Tim. iv. 1-3.

If the word spoken by angels was stedfast, &c. how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him?-Heb. ii. 2, 3.

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard (or because they were not united by faith to) it.-Heb. iv. 2.

I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written, &c.-Heb. xiii. 22.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, &c. wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, &c. receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls: but be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves.--James i. 18, 19.21-23.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, &c. and this is the word

which by the gospel is preached unto I cometh, &c. he shall baptize you you.-1 Pet. i. 23. 25.

As new born babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.-1 Pet. ii. 2.

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God.-1 Pet. iv. 11.

That which we have seen and heard, But when they believed, &c. they declare we unto you, that ye also may were baptized, both men and women, have fellowship with us: and truly, &c. Then Simon was baptized, &c. our fellowship is with the Father, The Eunuch said, See, here is water, and with his Son Jesus Christ.- what doth hinder me to be baptized? 1 John i. 3.

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein. - Rev. i. 3.

III. Baptism.

God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant, &c. Every manchild among you shall be circumcised, &c. and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you, &c. Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, &c. and circumcised the flesh, &c. And Abraham was ninety and nine years old when he was circumcised, &c. And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised.Gen. xvii. 9-13.23-25.

and Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest, &c. they went both into the water, and he baptized him. Acts viii. 12, 13.

36-38.

Saul arose, and was baptized.Acts ix. 18. xxii. 16.

Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. - Acts x. 47, 48.

Who shall tell thee words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. -Acts xi. 14.

Lydia, &c. whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul: and when she was baptized, and her household, &c. Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou

Suffer little children, and forbid and thine house, &c. and he took

them not to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven: and he laid his hands on them.-Matt. xix. 13-15.

Goye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.-Matt. xxviii. 19.

John said, I indeed baptize you with water: but one mightier than

them the same hour, &c. and was baptized, he, and all his, straightway. --Acts xvi. 14, 15.30-34.

Some who were baptized with John's baptism, were baptized again. -Acts xix. 3-5.

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death, buried, &c. Rom. vi. 3, 4.

I baptized also the house of Stephanus: besides, I know not whether I baptised any other.--1 Cor.i.16. The unbelieving husband is sanctified by the believing wife: and the and brake it, and gave unto them, unbelieving wife is sanctified by the saying, This is my body which is believing husband; else were your given for you; this do in rememchildren unclean: but now are they holy.-1 Cor. vii. 14.

As they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat, this is my body: and he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all Lord's Supper (or ye cannot eat); of it; for this is my blood of the for in eating, every one taketh before New Testament, which is shed for other his own supper: and one is many for the remission of sins; but hungry, and another is drunken: I say unto you, I will not drink what! have ye not houses to eat and henceforth, &c. and when they had to drink in? or despise ye the church sung an hymn, &c. - Matt. xxvi. 26-30.

betrayed, took bread, and when he when he giveth of his seed unto Mohad given thanks, he brake it, and loch, and kill him not, then I will set said, Take, eat, this is my body, my face against that man, and against which is broken for you: this do in his family. Levit. xx. 4, 5.

After The priests or people who were the same manner also he took the cup, unclean, &c. by any uncleanness, when he had supped, saying, This were not to eat or touch the holy cup is the New Testament in my things, that they might not profane blood; this do ye, as oft as ye drink the holy name of the Lord; if they it, in remembrance of me: for as did, before they were cleansed, they often as ye eat this bread, and drink were to be cut off from the presence this cup, ye do shew (or shew ye) the of God: no stranger was to eat of Lord's death till he come: where- the holy thing.-Levit. xxii. 1-10. fore, whosoever shall eat this bread, 14, 15. and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and every one that hath an issue, and and blood of the Lord, &c. he that whosoever is defiled with the dead: eateth and drinketh unworthily, eat- both male and female shall ye put eth and drinketh damnation to him- out; without the camp shall yet put self, not discerning the Lord's body, them, that they defile not their camps &c. When ye come together to eat, in the midst whereof I dwell: and tarry one for another: and if any man hunger, let him eat at home. 1 Cor, xi. 17. 20-27.29.33, 34.

V. Discipline, Church Censures, or removing of Scandals.

IF a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it: if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.-Lev. v. 1.

If there were a leper in the camp of Israel, he was to be pronounced unclean, and his habitation without the camp, alone.-Levit. xiii. 44. 46.

Put out of the camp every leper,

the children of Israel did so, &c.Numb. v. 1-4. Deut. xxiii. 14.

Uzziah the king was a leper: and being in the temple, the priests thrust him out from thence, &c. he dwelt in a several house, being a leper: for he was cut off from the house of the Lord.-2 Chron. xxvi. 19-21.

The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, &c. for they have taken of their daughters, for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands; yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass, &c.-Ezra iz. 1, 2.

When he was to be brought into the camp again, he was first to be pronounced clean by the priest, after he had viewed him, and offered sacrifices for him, and performed other things: so, for other uncleannesses, they were to be separated from the congregation, &c. and so brought in tion of God for ever, &c.
