it's been thirty years since i read this. however, i've had to go back to it for clarification on Muslim kinship practices on the east coast of sri lanka where they have a kudi system (a matrilineal system) as opposed to the Dravidian bilateral system. this is a book by which to learn kinship in practice and theory. a wonderful brilliant and delightful read. Thanks Professor Yalman wherever you may be.
